Reflection

As I furthered my knowledge about how people learned what I founded surprising was how all the different learning theories have an impact on learning. Additionally, how you may think your way of learning fits exclusively within a certain theory and as you gain deeper knowledge, you understand your personal learning process is interwoven within those theories. You realize that no one theory is in isolation of the other and they all constitute a vital role in learning. Another point I found striking was how my learning styles can change from one concept to the other. Even though I prefer hands-on activities and authentic experiences, I never really though about how may preference in learning fluctuate in different concepts until taking this class.

This course has deepened my understanding of my personal learning process because I now realize that my preference of learning is not represented in just two learning theories. There are some relevant to my learning entrenched in all the theories. This course has also shown me how the use of technology can make a huge impact on ones’ personal learning process.

As I acquired in-depth knowledge of the learning theories and styles, I have come to the realization they are all interconnected. As I studied the different learning theories, I realized the learning styles are interwoven within them. Not only are the learning styles incorporated in the learning theories, the technology is also inclusive in the learning theories. Therefore, to put it in simple terms the learning theories encompass the learning styles and technology. With all of these learning approach embedded within the learning theories, when learners are taught according to the leaning theories they are more inspired and motivated to learn.

Through this course I have been made aware that motivation can be intrinsic or extrinsic. When I read about the different factors that motivated one to learn, I could clearly see many factors that contributed and keep me motivate to learn. Additionally, as I studied the information on the learning theories, I realized the learning theories provide relevant information that is needed to determine how an individual learn, what factors influence the learner, what factor are needed for memory, how knowledge is transferred, the types of learning strategies that serve the learners best, as well the type of technology that can be used to provide a content rich instruction. Therefore, if I use the information provided in the theories to guide my instruction, I should be able to gain attention, have relevant information, and give students confident and satisfaction through my teaching method. Furthermore, by using the information in the theories I am providing an array of learning styles that should motivate and inspire students to lean.

The knowledge I have gained from this course will help me to further my career in the field of instructional design, by providing me with the tools and skills to make better use of technology as an instructor such as: organizing, planning, assessing, communicating, management and assignments. It will further, contribute to my skills to provide a quality education that is stimulating, motivating and inspiring. The knowledge I have attained from this course will help me to be more creative and skillful in a variety of technological applications in order to improve learning. As I continue to gain deeper knowledge and experience to further my career in Instructional Design Technology, I will be able to efficiently and effectively use technology and multimedia tools to create a classroom that is conducive to learning and provide engaging and content-rich instruction that compliments the unique learning theories and styles of each individual learner.
