In week one discussion I stated the learning theories that best supported my method of learning are cognitive and Constructivist. These two theories still support the major style of learning for me. However, now that I have a deeper understanding of the other theories, I must say they all have an impact on my learning. The Behaviorist theory has a role because the positive stimulus I receive is encouragement for me to persevere through-out this program and any other learning activity. The social Learning Theory has it function in my learning because I know that my culture and the environment have an influence on the way I learn. The Connectivism Theory is a component in my learning because I also learn through social networks, technology and diversity of other individuals. Finally, Adult Learning has a major role in my learning through personal experiences, work experiences, positive and negative adult learning and time between learning interaction and the aging factors.
Over the past weeks I have learned that each learning theory affects the way in which I learn. However, the Cognitive and Constructivist Theory have more impact on how I learn best. Additionally, the Adult Learning theory contributes quite a bit to my learning preference. After in depth study of each theory, I know that no one theory is in isolation of the other. They all have a vital aspect in learning.
Additionally, I have erudited that individuals have different learning styles that are reflected in different academic strengths, weaknesses, skills and interests. Therefore, understanding learning style differences is an important step in designing balanced instruction that is effective for all students (Felder, 2002). Further, I have be made aware that categorizing students by learning style, intelligence, strengths and weaknesses have their drawbacks because one’s style of learning can fluctuate from concept to concept and lesson to lesson. Furthermore, there can sometimes be mismatches between the way a professor teaches and the actual way a student learns (Tripp & Moore, 2007).
The role in which technology contributes to my learning it motivates and inspires me to learn. I am euphoric when I learn how to maneuver new technology and I am inspired just being knowledgeable about the different functions and use of new technology programs. For a long time I have wanted to learn how to utilize the technology I have at my disposal to its fullest extent. My goal is to one day rely exclusively on technology for teaching, learning, communicating and extending education beyond the traditional classroom setting. I am inspire and motivated to learn about the things one is capable of doing through the advancement of technology.
Technology serves as research tool enabling me to delve into various topics. It helps me to connect to scholarly resources and gain access to numerous curriculum resources. In addition, it serves as Communication device for discussion between colleagues, my instructors and etc. Through technology I am able to Creating various design from numerous programs provided to me by my professor and through research. I am able to record information that I have discovered using an array of technology programs. Technology helps increase teaching and learning time because it is readily available at the click of the finger or mouse. Technology is also a way of gaining authentic experiences using the newest and latest technology programs and it is a more rapid way to receive news and view resources to enhance learning. Finally, technology has enabled me to continue my education, having a job and still be at home with my family.
